Reflecting on I. M. Pei’s Influence as an Architect and Contributions as a Transcultural Figure

Sandi Pei with Calvin Tsao and  Paul Goldberger

The M+ American Friends Foundation hosted a lively discussion at The Frederick P. Auditorium at the Cooper Union on May 15, 2024, focusing on the life and influence of I.M. Pei, the 1983 Pritzker Architecture Prize recipient.  Author and critic Paul Goldberger elicited animated conversation from Sandi Pei and Calvin Tsao (Principal, Tsao & McKown) about their observations of I. M. Pei’s influence as an architect and contributions as a transcultural figure and global citizen. The presentation precedes the launch of Pei’s First Major Retrospective: “I.M. Pei: Life Is Architecture”, set to open on June 29th at the M+ Museum of Contemporary Visual Culture in Hong Kong.
