Dezeen Features PEI Architects’ SANY Beijing Global Innovation Headquarters

Dezeen China Article Feature

Dezeen China recently featured PEI Architects’ SANY Beijing Global Innovation Headquarters, a monumental 5.35 million ft² (496,755 m²) campus currently advancing through Phase I construction in Beijing.

Conceived as a new global identity for SANY Group, one of the world’s largest heavy machinery and engineering companies, the project responds to the company’s transformation from industrial manufacturing toward AI, robotics, and global engineering technology. The project’s design was led by Design Director Leo Xinyu Li.

The feature highlights the main tower’s “Smart Prism” concept: a 60-meter-high atrium suspended within a mega steel truss structure. Combining four pairs of 45 degree mega steel braces, approximately 13,000 tons of structural steel, and an 82.6 meter maximum cantilever span, the architecture puts its engineering force on display. Structure is no longer backstage technique; it becomes the public face of the institution, translating industrial power into spatial experience. “For a company built on machines, the challenge was not to deny weight, but to turn it into a new spatial image of intelligence,” says Leo Xinyu Li.

The headquarters campus is advancing through its critical structural phase, with Phase I expected to be completed in 2027 and Phase II to follow in 2030.
